Where are the Scion Paint Codes and what do they mean?

Before you order your Scion touch up paint, you need to find out the paint code for your Scion tC or XB. Regardless of whether you have a yellow Scion tC or a silver Scion tC, the paint code will be located on the manufacturer’s tag. Thankfully, Scion has kept this in the same place across all of their models, to find it:

Scion Paint Code Location
  1. Go to the driver’s side of your car
  2. Open the driver’s side door
  3. Look on the door jamb

Scion is a subsidiary of Toyota, and they use the same paint code system. The paint codes are three digits long and have both numbers and letters.

An example code is: 1F7

Scion Paint Code Location

1F7 is the code for Classic Silver Metallic, you’ll also see that the paint tag says Toyota when the car is a Scion, this is very common with subsidiary brands. Another code 3P0 represents the color for Absolutely Red Scion tC or the Scion color 1G3 Scion tC is Magnetic Gray. On the manufacturer’s sticker, the code can be found next to the “CT/R” header, which is at the bottom of the label, underneath the barcode.

After you get the code, order one of our Scion touch up kits to restore your Scion to its original factory finish. All our Scion colors, including Matte Black Scion tC, will get free delivery on all orders.

If you are having trouble finding the Scion paint code on your vehicle, you have a few options available to you.

  1. Enter the model and year of your Scion into our Scion colors tool. Then, we can help you get the perfect Scion color.
  2. Speak to a Scion car dealer and give them your VIN. They will be able to check their records.

Repairing your vehicle with Scion touch up paint

Scion Door Damage

While it can feel like a daunting task, fixing the damage on your Scion is not a difficult or tricky process. We sell a range of products and kits, which help to simplify everything and allow you to restore your red Scion tC to its former glory.

By following the steps below, it is simple to get an excellent finish, even on tricky colors like Scion tC Grey. Before you start, make sure to check the weather. For the best results, the ideal temperature should be around 70-degree Fahrenheit.

  1. Sand and even out the scratch to make sure there are no uneven areas. We recommend using 320 and 600 grit sandpaper to get an excellent finish.
  2. Ensure the scrape is clean. Use soap and water then wax and grease remover to clean the area. It needs to be dry after washing.
  3. Prepare the scratch on your Scion with masking tape. It enables you to stop any other parts of the vehicle from being affected. Leave a 10 inch boundary around the area you plan to paint.
  4. Put on the primer in thin coats. Allow the primer to set for ten minutes between layers.
  5. Put on the OEM touch up paint in thin coats. Allow it to dry for ten minutes between coats.
  6. Before progressing, make sure the paint you have put on lines up with the surrounding area. If it doesn’t, apply more Scion touch up paint.
  7. Make sure the paint is dry before moving on.
  8. Finally, apply the clear coat. It seals the paint and is crucial for the shine and protection.
  9. Apply the clear coat several times. Then, wait up to ten minutes between each layer.
  10. Allow the vehicle to dry overnight.

Our staff members are on hand to give you some help regarding the entire Scion touch up paint process, so give us a call. Otherwise, we have YouTube videos that describe the process step-by-step and break it down into different parts.

The best paint products for the Scion touch up paint process

Whether it is Scion tC red paint or paint for your Scion xB, you need to consider which product is best for your car. There are a variety of products to choose from:

  • Scion Spray Paint – Great for large areas
  • Jars of Scion paint – Perfect for small scratches and scrapes
  • Scion touch up paint pens

At ERA Paints, we believe in quality above everything else. This is why we don’t sell Scion touch up paint pens. We stock the best products available so that you can repair your Scion’s paintwork to its original factory finish. Scion paint pens don’t provide a great finish, and for metallic paint, they don’t last long and begin to flake after a short time. They don’t repair damaged pearl colors to a high standard.

Whether you are looking for Scion tC white colors or need to repair your 2012 Scion tC 9.0, spray canisters are your best bet. They work well for big scrapes and dings, and you won’t have to worry about the paint flaking. Spray paint delivers a great finish on all Scion colors, the paint comes in big 12oz aerosol canisters and can be used on all types of damage. But they are particularly useful for more substantial scratches.

If the scratch on your Scion is small, we sell jars that come with applicator sticks, and these are the best choice. They allow you to work intricately and are great for minor scrapes.

The best equipment for repairing your Scion

One of the best things about doing the work yourself is the cost-benefit and the time-saving. But it is important not to skimp on the equipment. The right tools for the job will result in a perfect finish, and we recommend getting:

Preparation

  • Wax and Grease Remover -To clean the scratch and remove debris.
  • 320 and 600 grit sandpaper – To smooth the area out before you start painting.
  • Masking Tape – To protect the paintwork from being affected.

Painting

  • Primer – Primer is essential for preparing the Scion’s body for the paint.
  • Scion Touch Up Paint – It can be bought in either a spray cans or in jars.
  • Clear coat – The clear coat is to seal the color from the outside elements and ensure a color match.

Miscellaneous

  • A shop towel – To dry your Scion and mop up any spills.
  • Nitrile gloves – For protecting your hands during the process.

We sell Scion paint kits that have all of the necessary equipment included. It removes the hassle of having to find everything and is more cost-effective. But if you don’t need everything, we do sell the items individually.

Should you fix your Scion yourself or go to a professional?

Deciding to do auto repairs yourself can seem like a big decision. For some, it’s a chance to learn a new skill, and others just want to save on the expense. Below you’ll find some of the key reasons for deciding between the DIY option and taking it to the pros.

Fixing it yourself

The biggest upside to fixing your Scion at home is that it will cost significantly less than going to a body shop. Also, you can operate on your schedule and don’t have to waste time dropping your vehicle off. On top of that, the paint we sell is the same used by the professionals, so it makes sense to go it alone, especially with our handy touch up paint kits.

The main disadvantage of doing it yourself is a lack of experience. It can sometimes be unclear what to do, especially if it’s your first time. However, our videos and guide make it easy to overcome this. Also, if your vehicle has been severely damaged and entire panels need to be repainted, it is best to go to a professional.

Going to a body shop

When you opt to use a body shop, you can guarantee the work will be completed to a professional standard. Often, shops provide warranties on their work, so if anything goes wrong during the process, you are covered. They are also a must if the car has been extensively damaged as they have the right equipment to handle substantial repairs.

However, if you are looking for a cost-effective method, going to a professional is a bad idea. Even for small scrapes, shops can cost significantly more. You will also lose out in regards to time and have to arrange alternative transport while your vehicle is being worked on.

Will your Scion be worth more if you repair the scratches?

Scion Paint Damage

The short answer is yes. Buyers like to buy vehicles that aren’t marred by blemishes. When buying a car, most people walk around the car and take a quick look. Seeing a large scratch on the side puts the buyer into a defensive stance. They begin weighing up how much they can get off the asking price, or they may even consider avoiding the car altogether.

If you don’t fix the damage to your Scion, the potential buyer will do it. Most people don’t know the cost of repairing scrapes off the top of their heads. They will arrive at an estimated figure and try to knock this amount off the asking price, which devalues your vehicle.

Generally, it will be harder to get the price you are asking for with scratches on the paintwork. So, fixing it yourself and restoring your Scion tC or xB to its former glory means more money in your back pocket in the long run.

Conclusion

Regardless of whether you are looking for Scion tC white or a host of other Scion colors, we have the paint you are looking for. Completing the touch-up paint process yourself is a rewarding and cheap way of putting the shine back on your Scion, so what are you waiting for?
